Liver diseases are the number one cause of death for Koran men in their 40s. The top life threatening disease for Korean men in 40s and 50s is liver cirrhosis. In serious cases, it accompanies complications and sometimes develops into liver cancer. The biggest cause of liver cirrhosis is hepatitis B (68%), which is followed by hepatitis C (15%), and alcoholic hepatitis (17%). Thankfully, the occurrence of hepatitis B has been reduced with the preventive vaccine. However, the rate of hepatitis patients becoming cirrhosis patients has been rapidly increasing recently.
In oriental medicine, liver cirrhosis is seen to be caused by combination of bad eating habits, anger, over working, and excessive drinking. Particularly, with gluttony or irregular diet, undigested food accumulate inside the body and it turns into phlegm toxins to affect the liver to cause liver cirrhosis. Since liver cirrhosis is affected not only by the hepatitis virus but also the toxins and pollution condition of the blood supplied from the stomach to the liver, the condition of the stomach and the gastrointestinal muscularis layer is considered directly related to occurrence of liver cirrhosis. The gastrointestinal muscularis layer is where blood is purified before it is sent to the liver, a problem in this area becomes the problem of the liver. Therefore, the liver cells can become stiff even when the blood test and ultrasonic test does not show anything. The reason why there are a lot of patients diagnosed as a simple hepatitis carrier are suddenly found to have a last stage liver cirrhosis is because the gastrointestinal phlegm stagnation has worsen the liver condition. In this sense, it would not be an exaggeration to say polluted gastrointestinal muscularis layer is a core factor to the progress of liver cirrhosis.
The phlegm stagnation treatment was first applied to a last stage liver cirrhosis patient who visited our hospital in 2005. He heard from a general hospital that he only has 6 months left with his life, but he is still alive and well to this day – in around 8 years time.
Since then, I have been applying the phlegm stagnation treatment to all malignant liver disease patients, and as expected, detoxification of the gastrointestinal muscularis layer purifies the blood supplied to the liver and greatly promotes the liver function. When diagnosing patients with liver cirrhosis or liver cancer, most of them have more severe phlegm stagnation situation than any other patients. I realized how important eating habits are to our liver health.
Liver is the organ with the most outstanding reviving ability. Therefore, a severe liver cirrhosis patient could restore the liver function and recover on its own by improving eating habits and eliminating phlegm toxins entering into the liver.
